Smile of Thailand Annual Water Lily

Smile of Thailand Annual Water Lily — Scarlet Red Goblet Blooms (350+ Petals) | Day Bloomer

Smile of Thailand is a rare, collector-grade annual water lily with breathtaking scarlet-red, goblet-shaped flowers held high above the water. Each bloom is packed with 350+ petals, creating a dense, luxury “bouquet” look you simply don’t see in typical annual water lilies. It is a day bloomer with large flowers 6–8 inches across, and it can make a bold centerpiece in any sunny water garden when given warmth, space, and heavy feeding.

Note on awards: I attempted to locate public, indexed sources for awards/official recognition (Facebook/Instagram posts often aren’t searchable). I did not find a reliable public award record. If you have the award name + year, I’ll add it cleanly.

Why Customers Love It

  • 350+ petals for a truly premium bloom form

  • Scarlet red goblet flowers held high above the water

  • Day bloomer with 6–8" flowers

  • A rare, “wow factor” annual water lily for collectors

Plant Requirements (quick reference)

  • Type: Annual water lily (day-blooming)

  • Sun: Full sun, all-day direct sun (6+ hours strong midday minimum)

  • Container: 5–10 gallon wide aquatic pot (fabric pots preferred)

  • Depth (soil surface → water surface): 8–18 inches

  • Soil: Heavy loam topsoil only (no bagged mix, peat, compost, “aquatic media,” or gravel)

Care & Fertilizing (simple schedule)

High petal count = high appetite.

  • Fertilizer tablets: 6–10 tablets on the 1st & 15th each month (May–September)

  • Application: Push tablets 3–4" into the soil around (not on) the crown

  • Don’t skip feedings: missed doses reduce bloom size and frequency fast

Water Lily Planting Tips

  • Place in the warmest, sunniest part of the pond

  • Use a wide pot (cramped roots = fewer blooms)

  • Keep surface water open—pads are “solar panels” for blooms

  • Still water shows goblet blooms best; avoid splashing/aeration over pads

Do’s & Don’ts

Do

  • Plant in full sun and heavy loam

  • Use a large pot for a large plant and large blooms

  • Fertilize twice monthly without skipping

  • Repot immediately on arrival; keep all parts wet while planting

Don’t

  • ❌ Don’t use compost/peat mixes, “aquatic media,” or gravel/stones

  • ❌ Don’t shade pads with floating plants

  • ❌ Don’t underfeed—this lily needs steady nutrition to perform
